we all need love in this world. we need the love of parents, of friends and of other people. it's how we know we matter - and everything matters, from the smallest bug to the biggest man.

If I'm so worthy of love...why have I never had it?
[Of parents, of friends. His mother was dead and his father hated him. Where was the love in that? Kaworu was the first one to tell him that - that he loved him. No one before or since had ever said something like that to Shinji. If he's so worthy, why had it taken an Angel, an enemy of humanity, to say 'I love you'?]

Why do people bother having children and becoming parents if they decide later they don't want them?

... i honestly don't know. children are the purest thing that you can find: you'll never find anything that loves as much as they do, feels as much as they do and that you'll love as much. your heart expands and swells when they're happy and it gets crushed when they're sad.

they are supposed to be things born out of love, and then some people have them for selfish reasons. when you become a parent, even though you wanted something to love you - it becomes something that you love.

to hate your own child is despicable, because they have no control whether or not they were brought into this world. they are innocent of that crime; if you hate your child, you must hate yourself more for doing such a thing to one that only knows you.
