I think Mochi is confused as to where most of the rover went. Even if he can't go inside, I think he noticed they're gone. And the fewer people in camp too

[ And probably Shinji as well. If they've eaten together outside of the rover, there is a good chance that Mochi hopped along for the trip. ]
